What does the training involve?

Over the course of three intensive days, you’ll receive practical, expert-led instruction in the design, installation, servicing, and maintenance of small-scale solar PV systems. The training follows the latest UK regulations and industry best practices, ensuring you're fully prepared to work safely, efficiently, and compliantly.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Installing and commissioning solar photovoltaic systems

  • Electrical theory for solar – AC and DC circuits

  • Design and configuration of PV arrays

  • Identifying and rectifying faults in solar installations

  • Understanding system components, safety protocols, and standards

This course is ideal for those seeking an in-depth understanding of solar energy systems and a nationally recognised qualification that supports career growth in sustainable electrical work.



Prerequisites

These qualifications are intended for qualified and practising electricians.

Before registering, learners must provide evidence that they hold:

  • Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS 7671, current edition)
    And one of the following:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)

  • Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification

  • Level 3 NVQ Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker

  • Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification

  • Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification

  • Building Services Engineering (Level 3) Electrotechnical Installation Qualification

  • SVQ in Electrical Installation at SCQF level 7

  • Equivalent qualifications listed in the EAS Qualifications Guide

  • Or a current ECS Gold Card (Installation Electrician, Approved Electrician, Maintenance Electrician or Domestic Electrician).

Learners without these qualifications may still apply under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) by providing evidence of suitable alternative qualifications or confirmation of relevant experience and knowledge of current electrical regulations.

Training is delivered in person at SERT’s modern, fully equipped electrotechnical training centre in Whiteley, Hampshire. We offer flexible start dates to fit around your professional commitments, making it easier than ever to gain solar PV certification without disrupting your schedule.
