Periodic Inspection Training in Hampshire

Periodic Inspection and Testing Course

LCL‑Accredited Electrical Inspection and Condition Reporting Training in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

Build Practical and Theoretical Expertise with SERT

SERT’s Periodic Inspection and Testing course, accredited by LCL Awards, delivers a combination of practical exercises and thorough theoretical knowledge for electricians looking to confidently conduct Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs). Learners gain hands-on experience on live, fully operational systems, including wall-mounted demonstration boards and electrical bays, ensuring they can safely identify, code and report faults in domestic, commercial and light industrial installations.

Our trainers bring years of on-site experience, not just classroom teaching, so learners understand how regulations are applied in real-world scenarios. At SERT’s Whiteley training centre, learners practise safe testing, fault coding and certification, developing skills that are immediately relevant in the workplace.

Who the Course Is For

This course is intended for experienced and practising electrical operatives. It is not suitable for learners with limited experience in the electrotechnical industry or those who do not already hold relevant Level 3 qualifications. SERT carries out an initial assessment to ensure each learner has the knowledge and capability to successfully complete the qualification.

Prerequisites

Learners must demonstrate relevant experience and hold the following qualifications to enrol:

  • A Level 3 Electrotechnical vocational qualification
  • A Level 3 Initial Verification of Electrical Installations qualification
  • A BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations (current edition) qualification

Learners who do not hold all of the above must provide evidence of suitable alternative qualifications and/or demonstrate relevant work experience, skills, and knowledge of current electrical regulations. SERT, as an Approved Centre (AC), documents and retains this evidence to meet LCL requirements.

What Learners Will Gain

Over three days, learners engage in structured training that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application. The course covers safe isolation, testing procedures, sampling methods, identifying the extent and limitations of inspections and correctly coding electrical faults. Learners also gain expertise in producing comprehensive Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) in line with BS 7671 wiring regulations and LCL requirements.

All training takes place on fully operational installations, giving learners practical experience and confidence that sets them apart in the electrical industry. Assessments include practical tasks, multiple-choice exams and written short-answer assessments, ensuring learners demonstrate both knowledge and practical competence.
