Battery Storage Systems Course
LCL-Accredited Battery Storage Training in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight
Practical Battery Storage Training for Qualified Electricians
SERT delivers LCL-accredited Electrical Energy Storage Systems training for qualified electricians working across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight who are installing, commissioning or maintaining battery storage systems as part of modern electrical installations. As domestic battery storage and small commercial energy storage systems become more widely specified, this course supports electricians expanding into renewable energy and low-carbon electrical work.
The course provides a structured route into battery storage installation, ensuring electricians can design, integrate and commission systems in line with current UK electrical regulations while responding to increasing demand for energy storage solutions across the region.
Electrical Energy Storage Training Facilities and Equipment
All Electrical Energy Storage Systems training is delivered at SERT’s Whiteley training centre in Hampshire, using equipment that reflects battery storage systems commonly installed in domestic and small commercial properties across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Learners work directly with live energy storage systems, including GiveEnergy battery units selected for their widespread use in residential and commercial applications.
Wall-mounted inverters are installed alongside battery units to demonstrate realistic system layouts and integration methods. Electricians examine inverter positioning, DC and AC cabling routes, isolation points and how battery storage systems interface with consumer units, grid supplies and renewable generation such as solar PV. This configuration reflects real installation conditions, supporting accurate system design and compliant installation in line with BS 7671, the IET Code of Practice and manufacturer guidance.
Electrical Energy Storage Systems Course Overview
Delivered over two days, this course leads to the LCL Level 3 Award in the Design, Installation and Commissioning of Electrical Energy Storage Systems. It provides electricians with the technical knowledge required to design, install, commission, test and hand over battery storage systems safely and correctly.
Training follows the full system lifecycle, from initial site assessment and system selection through to commissioning, verification, and client handover. Emphasis is placed on electrical protection methods, safe isolation procedures, earthing and bonding requirements, system testing and fault identification, ensuring electricians can deliver compliant and reliable battery storage installations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Course Structure and Learning Content
The course follows a structured format that links system theory directly to practical application. Classroom sessions cover battery technologies, system sizing, inverter and battery integration, protection and isolation requirements, earthing arrangements and regulatory compliance.
Practical learning is carried out on wall-mounted electrical demonstration boards and live battery storage systems, allowing electricians to commission installations, interpret test results and identify common installation and operational faults. This approach ensures a strong understanding of how electrical energy storage systems behave under real operating conditions and how installation decisions impact system performance and compliance.
Who the Course Is Designed For
This course is intended for qualified electricians and experienced electrical installers working in domestic and small commercial environments. It is particularly suited to those installing battery storage systems alongside solar PV or as standalone energy storage solutions, as well as electricians supporting clients seeking improved energy efficiency and resilience.
