Lead Service Technician – Renewable Energy Systems

Location: North East UK (with travel and occasional overnight stays)
Salary: £36,000 – £42,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Employment Type: Full Time | Company Vehicle + Expenses Covered

We’re looking for a Lead Service Technician to maintain, service, and support solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the UK. This role is ideal for a fully qualified electrician with leadership skills and a passion for clean, sustainable technology.


The Role – Solar PV & Battery Storage Lead Technician

As a Lead Service Technician in renewable energy, you will:

  • Deliver service, warranty, and maintenance support for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery storage systems

  • Plan workloads during weekly meetings with the operations team

  • Organise tools, equipment, and stock for site visits

  • Accurately complete all vehicle loading/unloading and transit paperwork

  • Supervise subcontractors and team members on site

  • Liaise with manufacturers to commission systems and troubleshoot issues

  • Maintain digital job records via mobile apps and request customer feedback

  • Leave all worksites clean, safe, and to a high standard

  • Communicate updates with customers and internal teams

  • Support warehouse and customer service tasks when office-based

  • Follow all UK Health & Safety procedures and promote safe working practices

  • Operate a company vehicle in line with UK driving laws

  • Work at height or in confined spaces as required

  • Participate in occupational health assessments and training programmes


What You’ll Bring:

Essential:

  • Fully qualified electrician (NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds 2365 or equivalent)

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical roles

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office & mobile workforce apps)

  • Full UK driving licence and good driving record

  • High awareness of risk assessments and H&S compliance

  • Physically fit, able to carry out manual handling tasks (training provided)

  • Calm under pressure, with strong problem-solving skills

Desirable:

  • First Aid qualification

  • Experience with solar PV and battery storage systems

  • Confined space or working-at-height certification

  • Familiarity with mobile field service platforms
